Dr. Sivanesan is a fourth year resident in the Anesthesiology Department of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was born and raised in Ipoh, Malaysia where he attended the Anglo-Chinese School for his early and secondary education. He went on to attend medical school at the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur. During his years in medical school, Dr. Sivanesan developed a deep interest in physiology, which spurned his interest in the hemodynamics of the human circulation and how various medications can alter this balance. It is a natural extension that he was drawn to Anesthesiology as a career choice.
Dr. Sivanesan completed his USMLE examinations and moved to New York in 2010 when he started his internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Now nearing the end of his residency, he has developed strong interests in cardiac anesthesia, high-risk anesthesia, airway management, and transesophageal echocardiography. His research interests include echocardiography and cardiac anesthesia. He recently received grant funding with the Computer Science Division at Cornell University and Technion Israel Institute of Technology, for the development of the COntextual MonItoring aND Information System (CoMINDS), a monitoring system aimed at integrating and synthesizing variables to test pathophysiologic hypotheses to explain observed data.
While in medical school, Dr. Sivanesan was active in the debate society and participated in international, university-level debates, including the World Universities Debating Championship.
